The Utopian Enclave

The Utopian Enclave draws on Bai’s childhood memories of a large aquarium at home and his later reading of Thomas More’s Utopia. He assembles commercially available aquarium rocks, plants, and miniature buildings into six artificial landscapes, photographs them, and presents the images as suspended lightboxes within stainless-steel structures shaped by his developing vocabulary of symbols. Enlarged, illuminated, and hung above the viewer, these habitats made by people for fish raise questions about who constructs an environment, whom it is made for, and who looks at it.

《乌托邦孤岛》从柏志威童年家中的大型鱼缸与后来对《乌托邦》的阅读出发。他重新组合可购买的水族箱假山、水草与微型建筑，搭建并拍摄六组人工景观，再将照片制成悬挂灯箱，与同期发展的不锈钢符号结构共同呈现。这些由人为鱼搭建的微型环境被放大、发光并悬置于观众上方，将环境由谁构造、为谁构造，又被谁观看的问题带入作品。
