BIOGRAPHY

Zhiwei Bai (b. 1981, Guangdong, China) lives and works in Shenzhen. Working across photography, painting, moving image, sound, installation and publishing, he draws on bodily perception, personal memory and lived experience of the city. His practice frequently involves dismantling, recombining and remaking existing material, bringing images, sounds and objects into new configurations across media and scales.

Bai’s extensive background in visual communication and cross-media practice informs his approach to selection, editing and composition. Early involvement in Shenzhen’s underground music scene contributed to his sensitivity to sound and his practice of listening. The city’s changing urban environment, industrial materials and electronics manufacturing culture provide an ongoing context for his work.
