Bai Zhiwei, born in 1981 in Shenzhen, China, lives and works in Shenzhen. His practice inhabits the unstable edges between sound, image, memory, and technology, continually questioning how reality is produced through the body, media, and systems. Working across sound, moving image, photography, generative processes, technological systems, and spatial installation, he does not define his practice through any single medium. Instead, he treats the translations, deviations, and residues between media as the site where his work takes place.

In Bai’s work, sound is often not merely auditory material, but a continuous state within the body or within spatial structures. Images, likewise, are not simply objects of viewing, but traces left behind by memory, attention, and technological processing.

His practice is concerned not with the representation of reality, but with the process through which reality is produced: how the body receives the world, how media organize perception, and how technological systems participate in the generation of judgment, memory, and images. Noise, afterimages, data, frequencies, space, and matter are continuously translated into one another in his work, allowing experience to emerge in a state between perceptual archive, technological structure, and poetic site.

Before focusing on contemporary art practice, Bai worked for many years in visual communication and art direction. He founded BAIS DESIGN and was named one of Forbes China’s Most Promising Designers. This background is not separate from his artistic practice, but has been transformed into a sustained sensitivity toward image systems, spatial rhythm, informational structures, and visual language. In recent years, his work has expanded from visual culture into sound art, experimental moving image, generative systems, and spatial installation, forming a continuous artistic path around perception, memory, technology, and the mechanisms through which reality is generated.
