Galactic Serendipity

The album is drawn primarily from modular-synthesizer improvisation and was not extensively edited, layered, or reconstructed after recording. Bai does not begin with a finished composition to be implemented by a machine. Instead, patching temporarily assembles functional modules into a system, and the sound develops through listening as it runs.

What attracts him to modular synthesis is not only timbre but also its technical form: electronic components and connections are exposed; modules can be separated, replaced, and reconnected; the artist can establish conditions without fully determining every outcome produced by voltage, modulation, and feedback. Drift, misalignment, and unexpected events become conditions for the next decision rather than mistakes to eliminate.

Bai decides when to intervene, when to correct, and when to allow a sound to keep developing. “Serendipity” refers to this encounter with unplanned results through making, while “Galactic” continues his long-standing imagination around astronomy, the cosmos, and mysticism.
